About  Shunts, Jumpers

Shunts or jumpers are electrical components designed to connect two pin contacts that are separated by a specific distance or pitch. They come in various types, including closed top/grip, insulated, non-insulated, and open top/grip, each with its unique features and benefits. The pitch range of these shunts varies from 0.050” (1.27 mm) to 1.00” (25.40 mm), allowing for compatibility with different connector systems. Additionally, the number of positions available ranges from 1 (1 x 1) to 48 (1 x 24) or 4 (2 x 2) to 26 (2 x 13), providing flexibility in designing connector assemblies for specific applications. Closed top/grip shunts feature a closed end that grips the pins tightly, ensuring a secure connection. Insulated shunts have a plastic cover that insulates the pins, preventing electrical contact with other components. Non-insulated shunts, on the other hand, lack insulation and are used when electrical continuity between the pins is required. Open top/grip shunts feature an open top that allows easy insertion and extraction of the pins, making them suitable for quick assembly and disassembly. Overall, shunts or jumpers play a crucial role in facilitating electrical connections between two pin contacts. They provide versatility in terms of pitch and position options, as well as different types to suit specific needs. With their reliable connectivity and ease of use, shunts have become an essential component in many electronic systems and devices.
