About  Circular Connector Housings

Circular connectors are a type of interconnect product that is defined by its circular cross-section shape. Unlike rectangular grid or coaxial connectors, circular connectors have contacts that are arranged on a polar coordinate system. This arrangement allows for greater flexibility in terms of contact configuration and mating. In modular connector systems, which offer the ability to configure a desired connector from a catalog of interoperable components, the housing components play a crucial role. These components provide the structure and framework into which contacts or contact insert assemblies are inserted. The housing components also serve as the attachment point for supporting components such as backshells. The contacts or contact insert assemblies, which contain the actual electrical terminals, are inserted into the housing components. These contacts establish the electrical connections between the mating connectors and facilitate the transfer of signals or power. Supporting components like backshells are attached to the housing components to provide additional protection and strain relief. Backshells help to shield the contacts from electromagnetic interference (EMI) and ensure a secure connection. By offering modular configurations and interchangeable components, circular connectors provide flexibility and versatility in meeting various application requirements. They are widely used in industries such as aerospace, automotive, telecommunications, and industrial equipment, where reliable and efficient interconnection is essential.
