MikroElektronika has developed the MIKROE-2621 EMG Click Board™, which serves as a prototyping tool for measuring the electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles. One of its key components is the Microchip MCP609 operational amplifier, known for its low offset voltage and rail-to-rail output swing capability. With a maximum offset voltage of 250 µV, the MCP609 ensures precise measurements. Its low input bias current of 80 pA at +85°C makes it well-suited for high-impedance applications.
The MIKROE-2621 EMG Click Board™ also incorporates the Maxim MAX6106 micropower voltage reference. This low-dropout (LDO) three-terminal reference provides a stable output voltage of 2.048 V. It features a proprietary curvature-correction circuit and laser-trimmed thin-film resistors, ensuring a low temperature coefficient of 75 ppm/°C (maximum) and an initial accuracy of ±0.4% (maximum). The MAX6106 operates efficiently in a wide temperature range (-40°C to +85°C) while consuming only 90 µA of supply current. It can source up to 5 mA and sink up to 2 mA of load current.
The MIKROE-2621 EMG Click Board™ requires a 5 V power supply and offers an analog output (AN pin). To establish connections, it provides a 3.5 mm audio jack that enables the attachment of cables or electrodes. The electrodes collect voltage signals (a few millivolts) from the skin, which are then amplified and filtered through the click board.
It is important to note that the MIKROE-2621 EMG Click Board™ is designed solely as a prototyping tool and should not be used for medical diagnosis. Electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic technique commonly employed to assess muscle and motor neuron health by measuring their electrical activity.
