Eaton Electronics' MOVGT series features radial leaded overvoltage protection devices that integrate a metal oxide varistor (MOV) and gas discharge tube (GDT) in series, making them an ideal replacement for basic radial MOVs. Available in disc sizes from 7 mm to 20 mm, with MCOV values ranging from 70 V to 600 V, these devices are designed for VAC circuit voltages from 50 VRMS to 480 VRMS.
The MOV and GDT combination provides superior surge current withstand and longer lifespan compared to traditional MOVs. By coordinating and arranging the MOV and GDT voltages, the GDT isolates the MOV from negligible transients that can age the MOV unnecessarily. However, when subjected to large transients, the GDT activates, and the MOV efficiently clamps the damaging voltage, providing reliable protection.
