Analog Devices offers the LTC4286, a high power positive hot swap controller with power monitoring capabilities via PMBus (Power Management Bus).
The LTC4286 is specifically designed for hot-swap applications, allowing boards to be safely inserted and removed from a live backplane without causing damage or disruptions. It features a circuit breaker timer that protects against overheating of metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs), ensuring reliable protection against overstress.
Equipped with an SMBus 3.1 interface and PMBus command structure, the LTC4286 enables easy communication and control with the host system. It also includes an onboard analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with selectable averaging and speed, allowing precise monitoring of board current, voltage, power, temperature, and fault status.
The LTC4286 responds to input undervoltage (UV) and overvoltage (OV) conditions by interrupting the host system when a fault occurs. It provides notifications when the output power is within the desired range, detects board insertion, and supports auto-reboot functionality after a programmable delay following a host-commanded turn-off.
For evaluation purposes, Analog Devices offers the EVAL-LTC4286-A1Z, a fully featured evaluation board for the LTC4286. This evaluation board provides a comprehensive example of the peripheral components and the hot-swap power path. Its layout is optimized to efficiently dissipate heat from critical components, making it suitable for testing high-current hot-swap setups.
With its reliable protection features and integrated power monitoring capabilities, the LTC4286 from Analog Devices offers a robust solution for hot-swap applications, ensuring safe board insertion and removal while providing comprehensive monitoring of power parameters.
