Patco Electronics

Patco Electronics was established in 1992 with a mission to provide cutting-edge battery management tools for the electronics industry, covering various secondary battery chemistries. Our initial product, a battery manager designed around the Unitrode 3906 lead acid controller, catered to lead acid batteries. Over time, we expanded our lead acid line to include higher current managers for larger batteries, as well as algorithms tailored for unique lead acid battery constructions. Subsequently, we developed NiCAD and NiMH managers utilizing specialized controllers. Another product line focuses on medium prismatic Lithium Ion batteries manufactured by Saft America. At Patco, we have pioneered a revolutionary technology for battery management equipment. Recognizing that heat poses a significant challenge to both the lifespan of electronic components within the battery manager and temperature sensing in the managed battery, our engineering team has devised a proprietary control method. This technique involves utilizing feedback control information from the battery management chip to regulate a primary switching circuit responsible for generating low voltage power for the battery. By adopting this approach, we have successfully minimized the heat generated compared to conventional methods. As of 1996, Patco Electronics operates from its own spacious facility spanning 10,000 square feet, situated on five acres in the Spaceport Center Industrial Park, located just outside Kennedy Space Center.
